Indo-Uzbek Joing Workgroup on Terrorism

The first ever session of a bilateral Joint Work Group on Terrorism was organized by Uzbekistan in capital city Tashkent with India was concluded on Tuesday April 11. Both sides agreed that states have a responsibility to refrain from providing any kind of support to acts of terrorism and prevent the use of their territory for sponsoring terrorist acts against other states.

The joint work group comprised of senior experts from various agencies of the two governments including representatives of defense and foreign affairs. As per the sources, both sides assessed that the two countries faced common challenges and threats and concluded that there was considerable similarity in the nature, source, pattern and methodology of the terrorist threat facing the two countries. The work group also acknowledged the true fact that at present terrorism recognized no boundaries and that this threat could only be countered by cooperative efforts, added sources.

The two countries further agreed to consolidate and enhance their bilateral cooperation in countering terrorism.

Relations between India and Uzbekistan are cemented together at various levels to facilitate intensive and productive cooperation. The cooperation between the two countries have and continue to be multifaceted covering a range of political, economic and cultural issues. These days the Uzbek government is seriously thinking to establish direct trade routes with India.
