Lockheed Martin conducted an impressive demonstration of its new development, a combat 30 kilowatt laser system. During the field experiment, the laser gun struck the engine of a vehicle that was traveling at high speed, Pravda.Ru reports.
"We clearly see the result of the revolution in the production of laser systems, which led to the use of fiber optic technology," Koki Jackson, Chief Technology Officer at Lockheed Martin said.
"Fiber-optic lasers are revolutionizing directed energy systems. This test represents the next step to providing lightweight and rugged laser weapon systems for military aircraft, helicopters, ships and trucks," Jackson added.
Lockheed Martin's laser system uses the spectral beam technology that combines multiple fiber laser modules form a single, powerful, high-quality beam.
