Life confirms need for SCO

Life itself has demonstrated the correctness of the political choice made by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Chinese President Hu Jintao said, speaking at a news conference at the end of an SCO summit in Moscow.

According to the Chinese leader, in the two years that it has existed the organisation, thanks to efforts of all its participants, has been steadily improving its structure and promoting international contacts.

"The organisation is making a positive contribution to the protection of regional peace and stability, to the development of all its participating states," the Chinese president emphasised.

According to Hu, the international situation is currently undergoing a sea change, which sets new tasks before the SCO. "Six heads of states were unanimous in believing that further progress in cooperation in international and regional affairs should be combined with effective measures of institutional construction and cooperation," the Chinese leader indicated.

Hu also pointed out that it is necessary to speed up the building of standing structures of the organisation, and to deepen cooperation in economics, security and other areas.

"China as one of the SCO member-countries attaches much significance to the building and development of the organisation," the Chinese leader concluded.
