Assistant to judge advocate of the United Group of Troops in Northern Caucasus Yeugeny Poddubny told RIA Novosti that a criminal case concerning two federal servicemen accused of killing Chechens has been handed over to court.
Junior lieutenant Arakcheyev and senior lieutenant Khudyakov are accused of killing three Chechens from the settlement of Lakha-Varandy in January 2003.
A burnt truck and three killed Chechens were discovered near the airport of Severny on the outskirts of Grozny on January 15, 2003. The investigation found out that not long before the Chechens were found, officers of a reconnaissance company Khudyakov and Arakcheyev stopped the truck and shot people inside of it for no reason whatever. Then the officers set the truck and the people inside of it on fire.
Officers are also blamed for illegal detention of one more Chechen whom they severely beat and wounded. Yeugeny Poddubny says that the case will be considered at the North Caucasus circuit court martial with participation of the jury.
