As a RIA Novosti correspondent reports, British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Jack Straw announced this decision the day before. Explaining the aim of this appointment, Jack Straw pointed out that he comes out for finding ways of helping Georgia to become prosperous, stable and living in harmony with its neighbours.
The Foreign Secretary also said that Brian Fall would simultaneously play the role of a high-ranking representative of Great Britain in the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary General for Georgia which includes Russia, the United States, Germany and Bulgaria.
Before resigning in 1997, Brian Fall for more than thirty years worked in diplomatic service of Her Majesty, occupying in the past few years high posts, including the post of the ambassador of Great Britain to Russia from 1992 to 1995.
As RIA Novosti was told by an official spokesman for the British Foreign Office, Brian Fall is already on his way to the point of his destination. He will work closely with the British ambassador in Tbilisi, but he will spend the greater part of his time outside Georgia - in Moscow, New York, Washington and Vienna.
Apart from that, the special representative has been charged with working with the donor-countries of Georgia and advising the British government fund which works out the strategy for preventing the appearance of conflicts on our planet, said the spokesman for the British Foreign Office.
