The smallest horse in the world was born in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. It is only 2 feet tall and it weighs only 48 pounds.
“We could not believe our eyes when we saw such a small horse. It is not just small – it is supersmall. When it was born it weighed only 48 pounds. Three months later she weighed also 48 pounds – it did not manage to gain any weight during the three-month period. Experts say that it will be of the same size and weight in the future,” says Elena Alekseeva, the owner of the horse.
The supersmall horse was named Sandy. Her parents are pony Drezina and thoroughbred English trotter Perfect.

“They fell in love at first sight. Drezina has been living here for more than two years and Perfect – for only several months. They live in different stables. However, when we released them to the pasture they spent almost all the time together. Sandy is the fruit of their passionate love. We were really worried during Drezina’s labour. Nobody knew the size of the colt. And thank God everything went ok. Sandy and her mother are feeling well now,” says Elena Alekseeva.
Sandy has immediately become the most beloved animal on the horse farm.
“She is very active and spends all the time running in her enclosure. She has a very good appetite and eats three times a day; however she does not gain any weight. We keep Sandy away from other horses. We afraid that they could tromp her to death,” says Elena.
