While speaking at the six-day conference "Russia: Reforms and Market Growth", Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that civil service cuts at the federal level from 400,000 people to 150-200,000 could be expected in two to three years time.
According to him, the cuts will be achieved by changes in the control and supervision functions, increasing officials' professionalism and increasing their wages. Dvorkovich stressed that the ministry had already drawn up the relevant laws.
At the same time, he said that this task would be more difficult to solve at the regional level, as the right to make cuts belongs to Russian Federation constituent members.
