London blasts prove nowhere is safe

2 dead, hundreds of injured in 6 bomb blasts

Six blasts have been reported on London in underground stations and on a bus at Tavistock Place, where a suicide bomber detonated himself. The two deaths occurred at two different locations, although the toll is bound to rise during the day.

Experts are combing through the debris and investigating the scenes of the crimes, everything indicating that these blasts were an organized and coordinated attack. Reports have been received from an Islamist group claiming responsibility for the blasts, in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. The group claims to have links with Al Qaeda.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has admitted that the blasts were terrorist attacks, calling them "barbaric", stating that ""It's important however that those engaged in terrorism realise that our determination to defend our values and way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people."

British security experts have long said that the question of a terrorist attack would be a question of when and not if. Now it has happened, the relatively long period of inactivity by Al Qaeda before the attacks sends a clear signal that these terrorists can attack anywhere at any time.
