A gas cylinder reportedly blew up in the hotel bar. Russian official says it was a bomb
An explosion took place on July 24th at night in the town of Kemer, Turkey. The blast occurred in the bar of Valery Beach Hotel. Twenty-one people – Russian, German and Austrian citizens - have been reportedly injured. The Kemer mayor stated a gas cylinder blew up in the bar of the hotel. Russian Vice Consul in Antalia Vasily Krivenko told Itar Tass on the phone today the explosion had been caused with a bomb. The type of the bomb has not been identified yet.
All wounded people have been hospitalized. A Russian tourist has been reportedly wounded in the stomach. The mayor said the person had been operated on. Unfortunately, there is no information about the state of his health. Local authorities are currently identifying the injured people.
”The Russian Consul General in Antalia has left for the site of the accident. We will have the detailed information very soon,” an official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
A similar incident took place in Turkey almost a month ago, on June 26th. An explosion took place in Hatipoglu Hotel in Alania. CNN-Turk distributed the information about the blast, while Reuters specified the bomb blew up in the hands of a suicide terrorist. However, the Turkish authorities rejected the information about a possible act of terrorism later. It was officially announced, the explosion took place on account of leaked gas.
According to the latest information, there are no Russian tourists among the people wounded as a result of the explosion in Kemer. “I can confirm there are no Russian citizens among the wounded,” Russian Consul in Antalia Sergey Alifanov stated. The official added, Russian tourists take four rooms of the hotel, all of them are safe. “Eighteen people have been wounded. Two Ukrainian female tourists suffered. One of them is in severe condition. The Russian authorities have informed the Ukrainian embassy about it,” the official stated.
