NATO-Ukrainian Statement Points Out Kiev's Contribution Into Anti-terrorism

The statement following the results of the NATO-Ukrainian meeting pointed out Ukraine's contribution into the European security and combating terrorism, in particular, the provision of the Ukrainian air space for US planes and the participation of the Ukrainian troops in the international peace-making operations in the Balkans. The commission approved the report on the activity of the joint working group NATO-Ukraine on the country's military reform. The ministers were satisfied with the total implementation of the programme for 2001 cooperation. A NATO-Ukrainian summit conference is to be held in Berlin in March 2002, the statement says. The ministers supported the US proposal to host a meeting on greater transparency and better coordination of 600 types of bilateral activity between Ukraine and NATO. The commission took into consideration the establishment of a special fund for safe liquidation of 400,000 Ukrainian anti-personnel mines supported by Canada, Hungary and Poland.
