The Russian tennis players triumphed in the Wimbledon tennis tournament for girls.
The final of this part of the competition was "purely Russian". Maria Sharapova and Vera Doushevina, seeded seventh and eighth respectively, met in it. Doushevina gained the upper hand in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).
"Young" Russian women's tennis had a clear edge already in the quarter-finals - five of the eight participants in the quarter-final matches represented Russia. Furthermore, three girls from Russia - the above-said finalists and Maria Kirilenko - made it for the semifinals.
