KAMAZ Halts Lorry Deliveries to Iraq - 21 March, 2003

KAMAZ has halted delivery of lorries to transport firms in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities due to the start of military action. This was announced today by Anatoly Samarenkin, KAMAZ's deputy sales director. According to Intertar.ru, Samarenkin also said that since the beginning of the year 100 KAMAZ vehicles have been sent to Iraq, as well as spare parts worth USD 300 million.

'Iraq has always been one of KAMAZ's most stable trading partners,' said Samarenkin. 'The plant is fulfilling an order from the Iraqi Transport Ministry to supply haulage vehicles and tipper-trucks. Last year we sold 2,500 vehicles to Iraq, which was 4 times as many as in 2001.' In 2003 the company signed a contract with the Iraqi Transport Ministry for 3,000 vehicles. 'If the export agreement remains in force after the end of military action, KAMAZ will fulfil its obligations,' stressed the company representative.
