Authorities said Friday they had arrested nine suspected heroin dealers in a bust of a narcotics ring that allegedly smuggled drugs from the Balkans for sale in Austria.
Police in the province of Lower Austria, where the arrests were made, said the suspects were implicated in the alleged sale of heroin with a street value of Ђ 70,000 (US$90,000) over the past several months.
Officials said the suspected leader of the gang was a 44-year-old native of the former Yugoslavia, whose name and hometown were not released. They said a 16-year-old Austrian girl who bought heroin from the gang died of an overdose, reports the AP.
