In the wake of the European Union expansion the Russian Ministry of Transportation intends to activate a modernization of the ferry transportation with the Kaliningrad Region (Russian exclave in the Western Europe), Deputy Minister of Transportation Vladimir Yakunin said on Tuesday. Sea shipping makes 65% of all conveyances to the Kaliningrad Region, Yakunin remarked. In order to fulfil transportation projects the Ministry of Transportation is negotiating with foreign partners, particularly with partners from Germany. The main aim is to develop ferry connection from Kaliningrad to German port town Mukran /Mecklenburg - Vorpommern federal land/, Vladimir Yakunin stressed. Projects concerning rail and road freightage with the Kaliningrad Region are being developed, the Russian Minister of Transportation added.
