In Mineralnye Vody, Stavropol Territory, North Caucasus, 13 Makarov pistols with silencers have been confiscated from two residents of Chechnya.
The detained were to have delivered the arms to Moscow, Colonel of the Police Armen Arakelyan, head of the anti-organised crime squad of Mineralnye Vody, told RIA Novosti on Saturday. Mineralnye Vody is a large health resort in the North Caucasus.
The luggage carried by the detained was also found to contain a large number of rounds of ammunition, a revolver, and a Parabellum pistol.
One of the detainees was a man with a prior conviction, while the second arms dealer turned out to be a woman, Arakelyan said.
The investigative department opened a criminal case under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal possession of arms). Operatives are identifying channels through which the pistols are bought and sold.
