On Friday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously voted for the resumption of the oil-for-food program for Iraq. This humanitarian program of aid to Iraq was suspended by the decision of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on March 17.
On Thursday, it was announced that Council members had overcome principled differences in approaches to the humanitarian program for Iraq, giving the UN secretary general the powers to resume it.
2.5 billion dollars on the UN accounts can now be spent on food aid for Iraq.
