McCartney Becomes Professor of St.Petersburg Conservatory

In the cold war era, The Beatles were pleased to know they were popular in mysterious Russia
Popular singer and composer, one of The Beatles, Paul McCartney is visiting Russia's St.Petersburg on Thursday. Well-informed sources report that McCartney will be awarded a diploma of a Professor of Honor of St.Petersburg Conservatory. The singer will pay a visit to several musical schools of St.Petersburg, Interfax reports.

Sir Paul McCartney is to get to St.Petersburg in a private plane. Although it was supposed that the singer would have a concert in St.Petersburg, the only show of Paul McCartney in Russia is to take place on Moscow's Red Square on May 24.

As it became known, 17,000 tickets for the concert have been already sold. 20,000 spectators are expected to come to the concert; now only tickets to the so-called "dancing parterre" are available. As the organizers of the concert say, unfortunately some swindlers sell fake tickets.

On May 24, entry to the Red Square will be prohibited; the audience will be allowed to the Square only 1.5 hours before the concert. A special entry to the Square from the Vasilyevsky Spusk (the hill sloping down from Red Square's St.Basil's Cathedral) will be opened for VIPs, ITAR-TASS news agency reports.

Lots of instruments have been delivered to Moscow especially for the concert. Technical and administrative services, a dining-room, an office, a cloakroom for artists and a make-up room for McCartney will be placed in tents raised behind the stage.

The other day, Paul McCartney has said being in Germany, he was looking forward to visiting Moscow. The singer told journalists that the Russian capital would be a particular stage of his world tour.
"I composed 'Back In The USSR', but never visited the place myself,"  the popular singer says. "In the cold war era, we were pleased that mysterious Russia also knew The Beatles."

Sir Pal McCartney had his last concert in Germany, in Hamburg, on Wednesday before the departure to Moscow. He is to come to the Russian capital on May 23. During the last concert in Germany, Paul McCartney sang over 30 songs, 2/3 of which were The Beatles' classical songs.
Thousand of The Beatles fans in Germany held a warm reception to McCartney in Hamburg Wednesday late. That has become a very nice conclusion to his tour in Germany.

The ex-soloist of the legendary Liverpool quartet decided to organize concerts in Germany after a ten-year break; he came to Germany at the end of April in the network of his world tour which continues for about a year. Paul McCartney had concerts in Cologne, Hanover, Oberhausen and Munich within 25 days. In Hamburg, 25,000 tickets for McCartney concerts were sold out just within few hours.

The popular singer told his admirers that he was happy to visit Hamburg once again, as the city called up wonderful recollections. It was in this city that The Beatles had its first concerts in Germany in the 1960s.

The concert tour in Germany was dedicated to the global cluster bomb prohibition.
