Medics Dump Abortion Victim in Forest after Bad Surgery

Three medics from a private clinic in the Moscow region may find themselves on criminal negligence trial. A female national of Uzbekistan died in the clinic during abortion surgery. The doctors took the dead body out of the clinic and dumped it in Losyny Ostrov (Moose Island) National Park in the Moscow region. The decomposing body was found in the park by local residents, RIA Novosti reports.

One of the doctors, Elena Oleinikova, an obstetrician, has been charged with criminal negligence. However, investigators believe that the woman's two associates - Elena S. (44) and Marat K. (37) may avoid criminal persecution.

"The punishment on these charges stipulates a prison term of up to three years. If other employees of the clinic, who took the body of the patient out of the clinic, are targeted in the investigation as participators of the crime, they will face criminal charges too," an official said.

"In this case prosecutors will have to prove that those two other people were aware of the fact that they were committing a crime taking the body of the patient, who died during surgery, out of the clinic," an official said.

Elena Oleinikova, an obstetrician, performed interruption of pregnancy operation on the patient identified as Gulzat E., a national of Uzbekistan, on July 29. The surgery was performed during the woman's 15th week of pregnancy. The patient died on operation desk during the surgery. To conceal the traces of the crime, Oleinikova, the administrator of the clinic, and another employee loaded the body into a vehicle and then simply dumped it in Losyny Ostrov National Park.

The patient's sister went to the police claiming that the doctors denied her access to the clinic and refused to provide any information about the relative. Investigators checked the records of surveillance cameras in the clinic: the footage showed the medics loading the woman's body into the vehicle and then driving away.

The body was found in the park on July 30 and subsequently identified. Russian news agencies also reported that Elena Oleinikova, 49, was an obstetrician with 16 years of experience.
