Greece to attack any suspicious aircraft during Olympic Games
Greece intends to attack any suspicious aircraft that will attempt to come close to Olympic objects in the course of the upcoming Olympic Games, reported minister of public order of Greece Jorgos Vulgarakis.
“In case any airplane will be heading towards the prohibited airspace, completely ignoring the warnings, it will not simply make it to the Olympic stadium,” said Vulgarakis in his interview to the Greece’s public television.
Special radar-airplanes will be patrolling the sky during the Olympic Games in Greece. The airplanes were provided by the Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Their main job would be to spot suspicious aerial targets, reports RIA “Novosti”.
Main Olympic objects will be properly guarded: rocket complexes “Patriot”, mobile rocket systems “Stinger.”
Greece plans to spend more than a billion Euros on the upcoming Olympic Games, which are scheduled to take place August 13-29. Up to 70 000 people, including policemen, members of special services and Army subdivisions will all be part of security.
They will mainly focus on guarding the Olympic village itself as well as places of the actual competitions. Professional sportsmen from 202 countries worldwide will take part in the competitions.
Chief of security services of the US National Olympic Committee Larry Bewndorf stated the following: “Greece organizes the safest Games that can possibly be organized.”
