Patriot air defence unable to resist drones

The US General David Perkins has revealed at a military symposium how easily and cheaply the Patriot air defence system may be annihilated. He has given an example of an event when a missile worth 3 billion dollars reacted to a cheap quadcopter and downed it.

The system has worked out excellently and the quadcopter had no chance. But should such expensive missiles be spent for a drone, which costs 200 dollars and can be bought in every shop? As the General said, 'If I'm the enemy, I'm thinking, 'hey, I'm going to get on eBay and buy as many of these $300 quadcopters as I can and expend all the Patriot missiles out there'.

And that is while terrorists in the Middle East use these guided drones more and more actively. The problem General described, evidences that Armed Forces may turn out to be powerless in case of adaptation of cheap and accessible civil technologies to extremely expensive and hi-tech military facilities meant for real wars.
