Germany calls for immediate release of Israeli soldier

Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger called the pre-dawn raid Sunday by Palestinian militants on a Gaza border crossing a well-planned attack aimed at torpedoing the peace process in the Middle East. Two other soldiers were killed in the attack.

Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called the Israeli government to express his sympathy and called Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to insist that those responsible be brought to justice, according to the AP.
