The EU and U.S., the biggest donors to the Palestinians, have suspended hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the Palestinians following the formation of the Hamas-led government. The U.S. and EU consider Hamas, which has killed scores of Israelis in suicide bombings, a terrorist group.
Solana said European officials are still working on a mechanism to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinians while bypassing the Hamas-led government, the AP reports.
Solana also promised to talk to Israeli officials to ensure that the main crossings into the Gaza Strip can work more efficiently. Israel frequently closed the crossings, the main gateway for Palestinian imports and exports, due to security concerns.
