World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz was meeting with German officials on Monday to discuss how his institution can better fight poverty, the German government said. Following a short meeting with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Wolfowitz was to sit down with Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul for further talks. Wolfowitz, who left his post as U.S. deputy defense secretary in May for the World Bank post, arrives in Berlin fresh from the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.
He had argued at the forum that African nations had to tackle some of the unnecessary obstructions they have placed in their own path in order for development aid to be effective, reports the AP. I.L.
