A new draft of the UN Security Council resolution on Iraq envisages settlement of Iraqi debts within the framework of the Paris club, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov announced.
The issue of debt settlement will be covered in the draft resolution, Fedotov stated.
When answering a question of the Qatar Al-jazeera TV Channel, Fedotov stressed that Russia was ready to consider the issue concerning Iraqi debts within the framework of the Paris club. "The current draft resolution point to civilised way of resolving the problem," the diplomat said.
When touching upon the contracts concluded during the former Iraqi regime Fedotov stressed that "contracts signed within the framework of the UN humanitarian programme must be realised." "I am convinced that some contracts can and must be realised, as they envisage deliveries of goods needed in Iraq, such as equipment to restore elementary civil infrastructure, water purifying installations, components to build electric power plants and other things," the Deputy Minister stated.
"Contracts, which so far cannot be realised on ground of various reasons, must be compensated," he stressed.
