Estonian Defense Minister Sven Mikser has headed for Brussels to take part in the Tuesday meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union countries and of Iceland and Norway, which are striving to enter the EU. The meeting will be held in the framework of "15+15". As Estonian's Defense Ministry reported the meeting will focus on security and EU defense policy issues. It will also look at the issue of military management of the civil crises in the region and the development of the EU weaponry policy within the framework of the EU Common Security and Defense Policy (ESDP). The EU set up the ESDP in 1999. The EU is planning to prevent possible civil crises at the regional level by means of ESDP. Estonia backs the ESDP and wants to take part in its further development. According to the Defense Ministry, Tallinn is contributing to its performance by its peacekeeping battalion, the group of technical support and three naval ships. An infantry battalion can be added in the future as well.
