Lithuania To Debut As Council Of Europe Chairman

From November 8, 2001 to May 16, 2002 Lithuania for the first time will head the Council of Europe. Issues related to the activity of the Council of Europe were discussed by Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of this international organisation which unites forty-three countries, with the Lithuanian leaders in the last days of October. It was decided that in the coming six months Lithuania would concentrate its attention on the fight against terrorism. With this aim in view, the juridical experience of Europe in combating different forms of terror will be used. It is planned to actively cooperate on these problems with international organisations.
