Letters authored by German front-line soldiers and their relatives, all of them from Soviet and Russian archives, will be handed over to the search-and-rescue service of German Red Cross in Munich on Thursday, announced the administrative office of the Bavarian government on Wednesday. Over the past 10 years, similar letters from Russian archives helped the Red Cross clarify the fate of 100,000 Wehrmacht servicemen who were believed to have gone missing from the Eastern Front. To this day, it is still unclear what happened to some 1.4 million German soldiers who fought against the USSR.
