To effectively fight against international terrorism, a transnational strategic centre needs to the created, said Alexander Gurov, the chairman of the Security Committee in the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, at a Duma briefing on Thursday. Mr. Gurov stressed that a long time ago Russian President Vladimir Putin had urged the world community to unite in combating terrorism. Unfortunately, this call has not been heard. The parliamentarian voiced his support of the need to develop and adopt an international convention on fighting against terrorism, "which will play a role of world-wide law effective in all countries that denounce terror." In Mr. Gurov's opinion, such undertakings are feasible. The only thing that is necessary for them to become reality is "clearly expressed commitment of leaders of developed countries" to do so.
