China Hails Russia-US Agreements On Nuclear Arsenal Cuts

China's foreign ministry has hailed the Russo-American agreements on cutting nuclear arsenals. Spokeswoman Zhan Qiyoue for the Chinese foreign ministry has said that Beijing hails Russia's and America's commitment to cutting their nuclear arsenals and is hopeful that these cuts will comply with the international legislative agreements and be accessible for verification. Commenting on the results of the first visit of Russian president Vladimir Putin to the United States, the spokeswoman noted that Beijing had taken into consideration the Russian and American leaders' statements and the common ground the countries had reached in terms of bilateral relations and international issues. In her words, the development of Russo-American relations is an important contribution to peace and development of the world. China, Zhan Qiyoue added, believes that Russia and the United States, being permanent members of the UN Security Council and boasting the largest nuclear arsenals, play an important role in international affairs and in maintaining stability and security of the international community.
