Afghanistan Developments And Security In Central Asia To Be Discussed In Moscow

The Afghanistan developments and security in the Central Asian region are the issues which will dominate a session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the countries on the Collective Security Treaty, said official Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko. According to the Russian diplomat, the conferees "will discuss joint approaches to the problem of the post-conflict setup in Afghanistan which has now entered a practicable sphere." According to him, the session will also "consider the problem of coordinating foreign political activities of the signatories to the Treaty, including joint promotion in international organisations of security-related initiatives." According to Yakovenko, the session participants will exchange information about their involvement in the world anti-terrorist coalition and will coordinate their further steps. The spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry also said that Russian representatives will inform the session about development of its dialogue with Washington both in the context of the anti-terrorist operation and on a broader scale. For example, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will tell his colleagues from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia and Tajikistan about the results of the visit to the USA by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
