The condition of two Russian sailors from the oil tanker Front Lord, which met with an accident off the Andaman Islands, is still serious, Russian Consul General to Calcutta Alexei Zolotukhin reported on Monday. According to Zolotukhin, an employee and a doctor from the consulate paid another visit to the Calcutta hospital where the sailors are being treated for burns. Doctors in charge of the case said two Russian sailors, Alexander Bodnya and Andrei Yegorov, were feeling somewhat better after undergoing surgery on November 28. The third sailor from the tanker, Ukrainian Nikolai Rudenko, will probably be discharged from the hospital in the next few days. According to the sailors' account, the accident in the engine room of the Front Lord, which belongs to the Scottish sea navigation company V.Ships, occurred on the night of November 22. At that moment, the tanker was passing by the Andaman Islands on its way to South Korea. As a result of the accident, Bodnya and Yegorov suffered burns of 50% and 30% of the body surface respectively. Rudenko escaped with two broken ribs and bruises.
