Moscow is making efforts to convince Iraq to soften its position relative to the United Nations' demands to fulfil the Security Council decisions on international disarmament inspection, clarification of the fate of Kuwaiti prisoners of war and Baghdad's recognition of Kuwait's sovereignty. This was said in Abu Dhabi for a high-ranking representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Titarenko, now on a tour of countries in the Persian Gulf. On Tuesday the Russian minister was received by first deputy foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates bin Said. The sides exchanged opinions on the situation in the region, on Palestinian lands and in Afghanistan. According to the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, one goal of his tour is to inform Gulf countries of Moscow's desire to convince Iraq of abiding by the decisions of the UN Security Council.
