American and British commandos can waste years looking for terrorist number one Osama bin Laden if he is still in Afghanistan, but all their efforts will be in vain. This statement was made on Friday by Ismail Khan, the former Chief of the Main Operations Department of the Afghan Defence Ministry of the Najibullah government. He believes that only Afghan Pashtuns who live and know the South-Eastern regions of Afghanistan near the Pakistani border, can find and capture bin Laden or extradite him to the Americans or their allies. "Pashtuns are capable of solving the issue of Osama bin Laden, but not because of the $25M which had been offered by the Americans, but only if they are asked to do so by an Afghan who enjoys unlimited trust and authority," General Ismail emphasised. This Afghan authority, to his mind, is, in particular, Mohammad Zahir Shah, the former King of Afghanistan and a Pashtun by nationality. Ismail Khan has been living in Moscow since 1997.
