Britain Shows Interest In Russia's Hi-tech Projects

Appearing Friday at a Moscow conference, "Great Britain and Russia: New Wave", British ambassador to Russia Roderic Line said that small and medium British companies working on the high technologies market show interest in Russian achievements. Russia boasts of a major intellectual and professional potential in the high technologies sphere, an indication that the share of hi-tech merchandise in the Russian export to Great Britain could be a great deal higher, said the ambassador. There is evidence that the 2000 Russian market of high technologies was valued at $2.5 billion, but given the brisk development of this branch in Russia, the market can still expand, added Roderic Line. Lots of computer products manufactured on the basis of Russian designs and enjoying high demand are already available in Britain. This considered, British researchers and entrepreneurs are interested in promoting cooperation with Russian partners, said Roderic Line. He added that Britain did not pursue the aim of brain drain from Russia. We would not like it to look like an exodus of Russian experts into the Silicon Valley near Cambridge and suggest developing mutually beneficial partnership, concluded the ambassador.
