US mission whose primary objective is to establish relations with the Afghan provisional government, will be opened in Kabul on Saturday. This information was disclosed by Richard Boucher, the official spokesman for the US Department of State. According to him, the state flag of the United States will be raised above the building of the US mission for the first time after a 12-year interval. James Dobbins, a special envoy of the US Secretary of State to Afghanistan, has been appointed as a temporary head of the mission. Officials at the US Department of State state that the mission is the first step towards the future setting up of the US Embassy in Kabul. US President George W. Bush will decide who will be the US ambassador to Afghanistan.
