US Secretary of State Colin Powell has stated that the US administration wants to explore whether "Russia shares the American interest in developing a missile defense system." Powell said as much in an interview with the Washington Post newspaper, published Friday. "We'll tell them (Russians) what we're doing. We want to hear what they're doing, see if there are any ideas of mutual interest to each other with regard to theater defense or see if they want to talk about strategic missile defense, limited missile defense-we'll explore that as well," he said. Powell added, "Russia this year proposed jointly developing a shield against theater, or short-range, missiles."
