Soon all Afghan refugees staying on the islands of the river Pyandzh bordering on Tajikistan will be sent homeland. Such a decision was adopted on Thursday at a meeting between Russian and Afghan border-guards at the sector of the Pyandzh border guard unit. According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, at present up to 12,000 Afghans are living in refugee camps on the Pyandzh islands. The press service of the Russian border-guards in Tajikistan told RIA Novosti that the sides had considered issues of cooperation between border-guard departments of Russia and Afghanistan in the humanitarian cargoes delivery via the Nizhny Pyandzh checkpoint.
