Moscow has expressed its deep concern about the crucial developments in Argentina where the escalation of social and economic problems has prompted a deep political crisis and the resignation of the president and the government, the official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Yakovenko, declared. According to him, Moscow "regrets that the development of the situation has claimed human lives." He stressed that people in Russia "believe that Argentinean society will be able to work out measures allowing a way out of the protracted crisis and to ensure internal stability." On its part, Russia, which has long enjoyed friendly relations with this South American country, is ready to support the efforts in creating the necessary conditions to stabilise the situation in Argentina.
