About 7,000 Taliban prisoners of war are now being kept at the Afghan camps and, by some estimates, their number may soon increase to 10,000, the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq al-Awsat reports. In its opinion, the problem of the rank-and-file Taliban who are in captivity has been resolved by way of the amnesty declared by Kabul. But the Taliban top can be taken to an Afghan court for the crimes against its own people. The USA is now keeping from 100 to 300 Taliban and foreigners whom are expected to be tried as terrorists. Now there are only two international tribunals which consider the war crimes in Rwanda and Yugoslavia. To try the Taliban and Al-Qaeda it is necessary to set up a new court, which will require corresponding international decisions and procedures. The newspaper believes that for this reason the above-said Taliban will, most likely, be tried on the territory of the USA which became the object of terrorist acts.
