The line for independent development and the strengthening of the Transdniestrian Moldovan republic /self-proclaimed republic within Moldova/, will be followed on, Igor Smirnov, who for the third time was elected president of Transdniestria on December 9, said at the inauguration ceremony in Tiraspol Monday. The present-day Transdniestria is a self-sufficient and democratic state, the fact which was proved by the recent presidential poll, said Igor Smirnov. "We are not asking anybody for anything, and are capable of ensuring our security ourselves," he said. The inauguration ceremony took place at the republican palace and was attended by the chairmen of the republic's Supreme and Arbitration Courts and Transdniestrian Cabinet members. Among the guests were Russian and Ukrainian MPs - deputies of the State Duma and Rada - officials from the Russian and Ukrainian embassies to Chisinau, and representatives of a number of public and political organizations of Russia.
