Cis States' Annual Demand In Direct Foreign Investments Is Over 37 Billion Dollars

The demand of countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States in direct foreign investment is forecast at 37 billion American dollars, said Vyacheslav Komarov in a RIA Novosti interview. Komarov is the chief of the budget, tax and investment policy sector at the CIS Executive Committee. According to Komarov, author of the new book Investments and Leasing in the CIS, a protracted investment crisis in the Commonwealth has become a brake for a switchover to a new stage -- the period of economic growth and fundamental restructuring in countries of the Commonwealth. Komarov declared that in virtually every CIS state investments into agriculture and the consumer industry have decreased. Revival of investment activities is observed mostly in the oil and gas, electricity industry. Interstate investment in the CIS economy is at an initial stage. Komarov believes that the main direction of efficient economic policy of the CIS states must be investment support for projects in the real economic sector and, therefore, use of this factor for general stabilisation, revival of industry and agriculture.
