A member of the gang headed by Shamil Basayev, the militant leader who staged an attack on Budyonnovsk on June 14, 1995, was arrested on the Stavropol territory, Southern Russia, reported the Federal Security Service Department for the Stavropol territory on Friday. The militant was arrested during an inspection of a regular bus running between Makhachkala and Volgodonsk. A resident of the Chechen village of Kadi-Yurt, the 29-year-old Rezhid Yasakov was wanted by federal authorities for participation in the activities of illegal armed units. Yasakov was handed over to the Russian Prosecutor General's office for the North Caucasus, which investigates the Budyonnovsk case. The attack on Budyonnovsk had claimed more than 100 lives.
