Russia is going to further increase the volume of its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, said charge d'affaires ad interim of Russia in Afghanistan Vladimir Ivanenko, when addressing a press conference at the Russian embassy in Kabul last Friday. According to him, the humanitarian assistance has been already going to Afghanistan in a considerable volume, including directly to Kabul. The Russian diplomat noted that Moscow "is ready to help in restoring the economy, infrastructure, power engineering and social sphere of Afghanistan, destroyed over the long years of war." Ivanenko stressed that "Russia will participate in solving these tasks independently and jointly with the world community." He recalled that a Russian humanitarian centre and a field hospital had been recently opened in the Afghan capital, and "this has confirmed our striving to help Afghanistan in action, not in words." Ivanenko underlined that Russia and its leadership will take all the necessary measures for the country's relations with Afghanistan "to be friendly and mutually advantageous, and become an example of inter-state understanding and support".
