Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the timing of the supplies of US Abrams tanks. He only said two words:
"Too late,” Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine said that Kyiv needs to get the new arms as soon as possible. According to Zelensky, the timing for the supplies of European tanks remains unclear, even though it is believed that Ukraine is supposed to receive them before US supplies Abrams tanks.
He also expressed confidence in Western arms supplies to Ukraine and said that Kyiv needed a large number of tanks:
"Five, eight, ten tanks do not resolve the question on the battlefield," he said.
On January 27, White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby announced a possible timeline for shipping Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
According to Kirby, Germany and EU allies will supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine within a relatively short period of time. As for US Abrams tanks, it will take much longer time - possibly "many months" - to supply them, Kirby said.
