A Russian Emergency Situations Ministry team which has arrived today in Afghanistan to coordinate the rehabilitation of a tunnel in the Salang pass, includes 21 experts under the guidance of Nikolai Zorin, with four sappers among them. It is in accordance with a recently-signed four-partite agreement between the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, the French agency for cooperation and technical development, the British Galha-trass company and the Afghan ministry of public works that all the jobs in Salang, including repairs and dreinage, are to be directed by the Russian side possessing all forms and records concerning the tunnel rehabiltation project. A camp for Russian experts has been set up at the tunnel's Southern portal where 235 out of the 400 damaged metres have been already covered. The tunnel's general length is 2,674 metres.
