A military prosecutor in Russia's war-ravaged southern province of Chechnya was found dead from a gunshot wound in his office on Thursday, the local Interior Ministry said.
Officials said the body of the man an aide to the military prosecutor in the Caucasus region forces' command had been discovered in the southern town of Urus-Martan.
The Chechen interior ministry gave no further details but an unnamed ministry official was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency that the prosecutor identified as Capt. Pavel Mironov had shot himself.
Chechnya has been devastated by two wars in the past decade between Russian forces and their local allies and separatist rebels. While large-scale battles have ended, rebels continue to mount regular raids and land mine explosions, reports AP.
