Russian physicist jailed over hi-tech spying for China

Russian scientist Danilov was sentenced to 14 years in a high security jail.

The Krasnoyarsk territorial court on Wednesday sentenced physicist Valentin Danilov, who is accused of spying for China, to 14 years in a high-security prison.

The judge announced that information which Danilov passed over to China contained state secrets, an Interfax corespondent reported from the courtroom.

According to Reuters, physicist &to=http://english.pravda.ru/accidents/2001/04/29/4459.html' target=_blank>Valentin Danilov was initially acquitted of selling state secrets to Russia's southern neighbor, but was retried after state security services complained the defense team had put psychological pressure on the judge and jury.
