YUKOS and Sibneft shareholders are negotiating, Alexander Semenov, the head of the press service of MENATEP, declared on December 3. "YUKOS shareholders insist on Sibneft following the provisions of the agreement, which was signed when the merger was declared," he noted. A source in the MENATEP Group said that the parties were planning to declare preliminary results of the talks at the beginning of next week, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper reported. Russian analysts believe that YUKOS positions at these talks are formally stronger. However, if the state helps Sibneft shareholders, YUKOS will have to agree to a compromise concerning the formation of management of the joint company. At the same time, some analysts think that YUKOS has a small chance to retain the previous provisions of the merger with Sibneft.
