Russian parliamentarians will report on violations against Russians living in the Baltics at NATO session

In the course of the spring session of the NATO parliamentary assembly, which opened on May 24 in Prague, two reports by the Russian delegation are planned - on the position Russians in the Baltic States and on the transit of narcotics from Afghanistan to Europe, said State Duma Deputy Speaker Lyubov Sliska.

Sliska said that detailed information will be presented about violations of rights and freedom of the Russian-speaking populations of two Baltic governments - Latvia and Estonia. 'In regard to the second theme, Russia raised that question already three years ago. We spoke of the danger of increasing narcotics traffic from Afghanistan, however, NATO considered the problem humanitarian and as a military-political organization did not want to deal with that question,' she said.

Moreover, the Iraq theme and problem of political settlement in Chechnya will be discussed at the session of the parliamentary assembly of NATO. Russian parliamentarians intend to also discuss with their Western colleagues perspectives of military and technical cooperation between Russia and NATO in 2003-2004.
