The volume of Russia's foreign trade went up 7.2 per cent in the first ten months of 2001 as compared to the corresponding period in 2000 and amounted to $129.4bn. This data was published by the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade in its review of Russia's social and economic development from January to October 2001. In addition, the report says that exports rose from $85bn to $86.7bn and imports surged from $35.7bn to $42.7bn. In other words, the Russian positive balance of trade made up $44bn in the first ten months of this year, which is $5.3bn less than in the first ten months of 2000.
